Mackenzie Wildfire Advisory Committee

The Mackenzie Wildfire Advisory Committee (MWAC) was formed in August 2018. The committee is led by the McLeod Lake Mackenzie Community Forest and the District of Mackenzie, with a primary focus on ensuring that recommendations outlined in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan are implemented and identifying wildfire mitigation opportunities at the landscape level.

Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) were created in BC in response to the devastating 2003 Wildfires in Kelowna. CWPPs’ primary purpose is to minimize wildfire risks around communities.

Mackenzie developed their first CWPP in 2005 and in 2017 had it updated. Progress has been made on recommendations of the initial CWPP, and the recent update of 2017 has clearly identified next steps.
